Chapter 103: Her Intellect is being Traded?
Shengli and Xing came back after having lunch at another restaurant and returned back to her courtyard but Xing was actually troubled the whole time. She actually had written everything that happened that day to Shengli and he didn’t talk about it till now. Why did that MingXue arrive at such conclusion?
Previously when they blamed her with Rijun, it was because of her ignorance. But this time, she was really lost and she herself thought she was being held as a hostage. How could they blame her now? But then again, Gu Lufen was kidnapped too and she refused to go back to her family knowing she’ll be blamed. So this is how this world works - unfavourable to women.
She used to not bother about these things before. But now with Shengli beside her, she felt awkward that she’s being blamed for something she didn’t do, won’t do ever. What if he started to believe these people, think like these people? What if he thinks I’ve lost my reputation too?
Shengli looked at her deep in thoughts and poured her a cup of wine, "You are over- thinking again, aren’t you?"
"I... I thought I was a hostage that day!", she said after taking a sip of the wine, " I slept in the Chief’s tent because uncle was with me. The chief slept in his grandmother, the priestess’ tent. Did I write you that? ", she looked at him with her eyebrows wrinkled. She decided to lay it all open and talk it out now rather than being held back that might lead to a bigger misunderstanding later.
Shengli had a confused expression, "Were you scared?", he asked in a gentle tone. Of course he didn’t mind the latter part of her speech as those were minor details. She’s changed these days and thinking that she’d been held hostage might have scared her.
"Why would I be scared?", Xing asked confused.
Yes, why would she be? Shengli contemplated and realised both are thinking different things. He looked at her, and she was all worried biting her lips and then it stuck his brain. Usually when a girl gets lost, she’d be accused of getting tainted in the noble circles. That would be used to break engagements and it makes even divorces easy.
Shengli sighed deeply and he got mad and flicked her forehead,
"Silly girl! Did you become stupid breathing the air here?"
