Wang Changjiang spoke politely to Old Mrs. Ye because of her age, but after Ye Ling disgraced him once or twice, he couldn’t stay silent anymore.
"What does a child like you know? Besides, where do you get the right to interrupt when adults are talking?" Wang Changjiang snapped with a stern look.
"Changjiang, there was nothing wrong with what Lingzi said. Moreover, there are only two of us in the family; Lingzi is grown up now, and I’m old. She can make decisions for the household." Old Mrs. Ye’s face darkened when she saw her granddaughter being scolded.
Wang Changjiang blushed with embarrassment, "Auntie, everyone in the village knows you spoil Lingzi, but you can’t indulge her like this. Look at how you’ve spoiled her — she doesn’t even know how to do any tasks. It’ll be hard for her to find someone in the future. I know you’re unhappy with me for saying this, but I’ve watched her grow up too. I hope she does well; otherwise, who would want to say something offensive like this?"
Finding an excuse like this for himself, Ye Ling and Old Mrs. Ye could see right through it. While Ye Ling sneered, Old Mrs. Ye didn’t want her granddaughter to make any more enemies. "Changjiang, I accept your goodwill, but you’ve already said I wouldn’t like these words, and I won’t say anything that’s against my conscience. Every family thinks their child is good. Wang Changjiang found it hard to argue back. After all, he had just criticized someone else’s child in front of them and regretted not keeping his composure earlier. He was worried about what might happen if Lingzi brought up the issue of his son and Zhang Juanzi.
