Spell Weaver [Book 2 Complete]

Alex and Olivia stood at the checkpoint with the sounds of the Safe Zone all around them. Val subtly shifted around Alex’s shoulders, his illusion reactivated to maintain the appearance of a deep blue cloak with gold trim. The amphiptere had been unusually attentive since they’d left the Guild, perhaps sensing the importance of what was to come.

Cars waited in line to enter, with only a few exiting. Dozens of men and women in uniforms moved in and out of the traffic, speaking to those in the cars. As they waited, a lithe man in uniform approached them with a look of irritation etched on his face.

“Identification, please,” he said please, though his voice made it sound more like a demand.

“We don’t have any identification. We’re expecting some representatives from the Hunters Association to guide us through,” Alex replied.

“Hmm okay, well, come on in. We can get the paperwork started then,” he turned and waved them toward the same small building that they’d entered when coming to get Sam.

Alex shook his head. “I think we’ll wait here.”

The man looked back and had a frustrated look on his face before shrugging. “Whatever, you’ll have to come and do it either way. Just trying to be helpful.”

Soon after, Evan appeared at the front of the line, stepping out of a car with a figure that Alex didn’t recognize. The two couldn’t have been more of a contrast if they tried. Where Evan looked every inch the young scholar, the other figure’s build and fluid movements spoke of high stats and combat experience.
