105. Ritual's End
Alex’s consciousness drifted into the black space, devoid of stars, weight, and any sort of breeze. He felt that his consciousness should be close to collapse and felt an urgent need to figure out what part of his memory was missing.
The memory of combining two of his skill uses was clear in his mind. Pushing through the loss of control and accomplishing the combination was a little hazier. However, things became clear again as he was pulled through the void, and... then things get blurry. Even as he focused on it, Alex could tell that there was something there, at the edge of his mind, but then it slipped from his grasp.
The next thought is of the System contemplating how to handle his combination of the two skills and it beginning to show him options for how to proceed. It took some of the ritual knowledge and two of the titles that he gained—worse yet, it had taken his class's active skill so that there was no chance of him repeating the combination.
He performed the mental equivalent of a deep breath, refocused his will, and pushed the thoughts aside.
I can’t afford to make a wrong decision after what I just lost.
