Chapter 894 Awake
The thought of losing her had shaken him to his core. That raw fear had carved something deep and terrifying inside him, and even now, the memory of it made his hands tremble.
He couldn’t even begin to imagine what he would do if that fear had become reality. The very idea left him feeling hollow, broken.
So, without another word, he simply slumped beside her bed, silent, overwhelmed, and desperately grateful that she was still breathing.
Minerva and Liz quietly stepped out, deciding to give the others time alone with Hera. They said they would return shortly with a basket of fruit and some nutritious food to help support her recovery, especially for the bone fractures.
Athena remained silent on the couch. Since Hera was in a private room, there was plenty of space for everyone. But Athena didn’t move. Her mind was spinning, her body still, as she stared at nothing in particular.
Xavier sat by Hera’s bedside, not saying a word. On the other side of the bed, Alexandre sat quietly too, his gaze fixed on Hera, his mind clearly working, trying to figure out who would dare target her like this... and in his territory.
An hour passed, then another half. When Minerva and Liz returned, they found the room unchanged, Xavier, Athena, and Alexandre still in the exact same positions as when they had left. None of them moved. They looked disturbingly hollow, as if stuck in some suspended state of grief, their minds far away.
Minerva and Liz didn’t say a word. Instead, they quietly stepped into the small kitchen area to prepare the fruit they’d brought. Minerva picked up an apple and a small fruit knife, determined to help. But her hands trembled. She’d never handled a knife like this before, and on her first try, she nicked her thumb. The apple and knife clattered onto the counter as she let out a startled yelp.
The sound echoed in the quiet room, but none of the three sitting inside stirred. They didn’t even seem to register the noise.
