Chapter 811 Storm
Zhane supported Hera as she held his hand. Hera reached out toward Leo, but her hand trembled—she was afraid to touch him. Gently, Zhane guided her hand to Leo’s chest. Hera flinched at first, but when she felt the slow rise and fall of his breathing, she broke into sobs again.
His chest was still as firm and strong as she remembered, but his skin felt colder than before—not the warm comfort she used to know. Maybe it was the illness, or the severe blood loss he had suffered. His body was clearly still weak and struggling to recover.
His condition hadn’t improved much since the day he was brought in. It had already been days, and while Terry and the others had been moved to regular rooms, Leo remained in the ICU—his life still hanging in the balance.
As if sensing her thoughts, Zhane spoke gently. "Don’t worry—Dave said Leo’s as strong as a donkey, so he’s not going to die that easily. Besides, the latest assessment just came out. It shows his condition is improving. By the time you come back, he might already be moved to a regular ward. Then you’ll be able to see him every day and take care of him without all this worry."
Zhane’s words were meant to comfort Hera, but he couldn’t resist throwing Dave under the bus. After all, it was Dave who compared Leo to a donkey—crude, maybe, but oddly reassuring. And sure enough, Hera let out a small chuckle. She looked up at Zhane with eyes full of quiet trust, as if saying she believed him. Then, she nodded.
"Alright, I believe you," Hera said softly. "Besides, he has a genius doctor on his side. And don’t worry—someone’s actually on their way here. They’ve developed a new medicine that stimulates brain activity and accelerates healing."
She looked up at Zhane as she spoke, and he blinked in surprise. As far as he knew, there was only one person capable of creating such a groundbreaking drug—someone whose skills rivaled his own.
Last he heard, that person was working abroad, always just one rank below him in the global medical rankings. Getting a sample of that drug—or getting the developer to come personally—would only be possible if the Avery family had called him in. After all, Zhane knew the man had ties to the Averys; they were the ones who had given him his private lab.
The fact that Hera had a way to contact him left Zhane staring at her intently, scrutinizing her with narrowed eyes. Hera pretended not to notice. No matter how much she tried to keep her identity under wraps, if Leo’s life was hanging by a thread, she wouldn’t hesitate to pull every string she had to save him.
