The Return of the Cannon Fodder Trillion Heiress

Chapter 796 When She Protects What Belongs To Her

But that wasn’t even the worst part. As far as Zhane could remember, it hadn’t been long since he took Hera to the shooting range to practice with real firearms. She had shown talent—her aim and instincts were sharp—but now he couldn’t help but wonder: had she already used those skills in a real fight?

His thoughts spiraled, one unsettling idea after another flooding his mind. Why was Hera with Leo, dressed like that? If she truly had engaged in a gunfight to rescue him, didn’t that mean she had put herself directly in harm’s way?

Zhane flinched at the mere thought of Hera running through a hail of bullets. He couldn’t bring himself to picture his delicate girl caught in the chaos of a gunfight. Shaking his head, he tried to push the image away. He didn’t know exactly what had happened, and he didn’t want to believe Hera would go to such dangerous lengths for someone.

But then he remembered what she’d done for Rafael—racing through the streets alone, heading into the forest while he was being hunted by an armed syndicate. It wasn’t so far-fetched after all, the idea of Hera throwing herself into danger again for someone she cared about.

Now that everything had already happened, there was no use torturing himself with the what-ifs. Zhane could only let out a long, weary sigh as he held Hera tightly in his arms, his embrace full of silent worry.

Without realizing it, Zhane was trembling as he held Hera close. She was still too lost in her sobs to notice, her shoulders shaking with fear as memories of her parents overwhelmed her.

She had been terrified at the thought of seeing Leo, yet a part of her desperately wanted to. That emotional tug-of-war pushed her to the edge, and eventually, she passed out—completely drained from crying and exhaustion.

Zhane’s worry deepened when he noticed her unconscious. Slowly, he rose from his chair and carried her deeper into his office. He opened a discreet side door, revealing his private lounge. Inside was a neatly made king-size bed with crisp white sheets and a folded blanket.

One wall was lined with medical books, the opposite side held a cluttered study desk stacked with notes and patient records. A bathroom door stood slightly ajar, and despite the room’s clean and minimalistic design, it was clearly a space he stayed in most times, as it was filled with his overflowing responsibilities and files.
