Chapter 372 The Angry Dave
Dave wasn’t as reserved as Zhane; he spoke his mind without hesitation. Although he had previously held back due to the Korean dignitary’s significant authority in his own country, he saw this situation differently. He considered it a matter of self-defense—protecting his woman from verbal attacks by an old man trying to elevate his granddaughter at Hera’s expense.
"Mr. Lee, I’m sure you’ve seen the news and realized that the woman in question isn’t my girlfriend, and I’m still pursuing her. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so audaciously knocking on my door with your granddaughter, attempting to push her onto me. If you didn’t think she had a chance, you wouldn’t be so bold. Or perhaps you’re encouraging your granddaughter to be a home wrecker? Surely not—you wouldn’t want to tarnish your own reputation." Dave said with a serious expression, but his words were dripping with mockery, like a bitter pill hard to swallow.
Even though the Korean Dignitary tried to maintain his composure, his face contorted and his lips twitched with barely concealed irritation as he heard Dave’s biting remarks. He felt exposed and humiliated, as Dave openly called him out and mocked him in front of everyone, disregarding his position and seniority.
He felt deeply humiliated. Although his actions might seem typical in their circles—where elders often play matchmaker and even override their children’s preferences to arrange advantageous alliances—it was still a blow to be called out so publicly. In their world, it was not uncommon for parents to intervene, even when their children were already in relationships, in an effort to secure a more prestigious match for the family’s benefit.
How dare Dave try to paint him as the villain now? The Korean Dignitary fumed inwardly, grinding his teeth as he struggled to maintain his composure. ’Would it only help Dave and his career good if he marries my granddaughter?’ he thought. Though he desperately wanted to strangle Dave at that moment, he knew he had to stay calm. Not only was he away from his own territory, but he also had to leave his granddaughter in this country, potentially vulnerable. Despite having some local support, like the Lennons, he knew it wouldn’t be enough to confront Dave effectively with his extensive connections.
He had no choice but to swallow his anger towards Dave, redirecting his resentment toward the more vulnerable target—Hera. Determined to deal with Hera discreetly and remove her from the equation, he hoped that by eliminating her presence, Dave would be left with no excuses to avoid accepting his granddaughter.
Now that he had thought it through, his anger had subsided somewhat. He met Dave’s eyes with a steely gaze. "Young Minister Carson, I wasn’t aware you were so protective of this woman that you’d disregard my position," the Korean Dignitary said, his voice laced with a hint of warning and irritation.
"Mr. Lee, isn’t this just a case of me reflecting back what I’m receiving? This is my country, my turf, and yet you have the audacity to call my woman a whore. What does that say about me?" Dave’s sarcastic expression shifted to a serious glare, his demeanor instantly transforming into one of intense pressure. The playfulness in his aura vanished, replaced by a menacing and formidable presence that seemed to radiate from a battlefield soaked in blood. The atmosphere around him grew heavy, making everyone present feel their knees weaken and their hands and feet grow cold, while the air itself felt thin and difficult to breathe.
