Chapter 98 Little Moments
The sun was warm but not too hot that day, and the park was busy with people enjoying the day. Nicole and Jasmine strolled along the roadside path as they headed to the park to have some fun with Hailey. Jasmine had one hand resting on her belly as she walked, and it was obvious now that she was nearly due.
Nicole carried the picnic bag and was already sweating lightly, but she kept a cheerful face.
Hailey ran ahead of them, her pink dress waving every side behind her. She waved to a group of kids by the swings, then rushed off to join them.
The park was full of laughter, balloons, and the sweet smell of popcorn. There were park officials in yellow vests watching the kids, walking around and keeping everything under control. The security system made the park really safe that Nicole could freely wander off, leaving Hailey with the officials and other kids.
"Finally," Jasmine said, placing a hand on her lower back and sighing. "I needed this walk. If I sit in that house for one more hour, I swear my legs will turn into stone."
Nicole laughed and nudged her lightly. "Girl, you’re carrying a whole human. I don’t know how you’re even walking. When I was pregnant with Hailey, oh God—I don’t even want to think about it." She growled.
"It’s either i walk or give birth on your couch. So pick your battle," Jasmine said, grinning.
Nicole threw her head back and laughed. "Lord, no. My couch is not ready for that trauma."
They reached a small bar inside the park that had patio chairs and umbrellas. The bar served cocktails, iced drinks and snacks. The place wasn’t too busy, and they picked a table under a big umbrella. Jasmine eased herself into the chair while moaning with exaggerated an effort.
Nicole sat across from her and ordered two fruit smoothies. "You know, you’re acting like you’re carrying twins."
"Well, I’m not," Jasmine said, sipping her drink once it came. "But this little girl kicks like she’s trying to climb out through my ribs."
