Hana’s frown deepened as she stared at him, searching his face for an answer. "Yunfeng, what do you mean ancient times?" Her voice was quieter now, but it carried a weight that sent a chill down his spine.
Yunfeng swallowed hard. His mind raced.
How was he supposed to explain this? That the knowledge spilling from his mouth wasn’t entirely his own? That he had memories—fragments—of another time, another Yunfeng? That deep down, he wasn’t sure if he even was the same Yunfeng she had always known?
His thoughts spiraled. What If she asked what had happened to the Yunfeng of this world before he arrived? Did he die? Did he vanish? Was there ever a difference between them to begin with?
He had no answers.
And Hana wasn’t looking away. Her expression had shifted—still confused, but now tinged with worry.
He opened his mouth, scrambling for something, anything to say—
"Tsk."
Jai’s voice cut through the tension like a knife.
"He’s talking about a novel he read," Jai said lazily, stretching his arms above his head. "I guess our situation is kind of similar to that, right?" He shot Yunfeng a look—quick, but sharp, a silent message hidden behind his nonchalance.
Yunfeng hesitated. Then, catching onto the lifeline, he forced out a chuckle. "Y-Yeah. Exactly. It was this old novel I read a long time ago."
