Chapter 118 - First kill
Muchen pressed his forehead against the cool glass, scanning the hallway. It was eerily silent except for the distant hum of flickering lights. He nodded. "Looks clear. Let’s move."
The three of them filed out in a clumsy, uncoordinated mess, bumping shoulders and nearly toppling over each other.
"Can you walk properly?" Muchen hissed.
Hana, gripping her bedpan like her life depended on it, scurried behind them. "Blame the walking mattresses," she muttered.
Thanks to Shao’s insistence, they were decked out head to toe in makeshift armor. He had ripped apart the coconut coir bedding and strapped it around their arms, legs, and necks, leaving only their elbows, knees, and faces exposed.
The extra padding made their movements awkward as hell. They waddled more than they walked, like stuffed burritos on a survival mission.
Hana stared at the ground ahead and came to a sudden stop. "Uh... guys?" She pointed at a thick, congealed pool of blood on the floor. Her voice wavered. "This is real blood, right?"
Shao’s face darkened as he grimly nodded. "Doctor. Got bitten right here." His voice was low, almost a whisper. "But his body’s gone. Someone dragged it away." he gestured to the drag marks on the ground.
A shiver ran down Muchen’s spine.
"Be careful, everyone," Shao warned.
The words barely left his mouth when a strange, dragging noise echoed through the corridor.
