Chapter 115 - Driving off
Yunfeng sat frozen in his room, gripping his phone tightly. His sister’s panicked voice echoed in his mind, her sobs still fresh in his ears. He had to act quickly. Without wasting another second, he started throwing essentials into a backpack—clothes, food, water, and anything he thought would help him survive the unknown chaos awaiting him in City A.
He took a deep breath and stepped out of his room. His mother was in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared breakfast. He forced a calm expression onto his face. "Mom, I need to go out for a bit. Jia wanted some help with something."
His mother barely looked up. "Be back before dinner."
Relieved, he hurried to the front door. But just as he reached the gate, a familiar voice stopped him in his tracks.
"Yunfeng!" Jia, his best friend, was standing there, eyes wide with shock. He had just noticed Yunfeng’s packed bag. "Did you hear about what’s happening in City A? You were right. There are rabid people out there—eating others. It’s too dangerous! Thank God we escaped..."
Jia trailed off as he took in Yunfeng’s panicked state, the tightly gripped straps of his bag, the tension in his stance. His face darkened. "What is this? Why do you have a bag packed?" He reached out, gripping Yunfeng’s arm tightly. "Yunfeng?"
Yunfeng exhaled sharply, knowing he couldn’t hide it anymore. "Hana... she’s in City A."
Jia’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What?! How did she—"
"I don’t know! She called me. She’s trapped. I told her to hide." Yunfeng’s grip on his bag tightened. "I have to go. Please take care of my mother till we come back."
Jia clenched his jaw and tightened his grip on Yunfeng’s arm. "What the hell? So you’re just going to walk into the city like this? Alone?"
Yunfeng realized how unprepared he was. He had only packed a few days’ worth of food. No weapons, no real plan—just blind desperation. "Yeah, shit. I forgot—I need weapons. I need something to fight them off..."
