At Ava’s office...
Ava’s face lit up with pure excitement as she listened to Dylan’s voice over the phone.
"And I walked—not much, but I walked," he continued with quiet triumph. "I can feel my legs getting stronger. The therapist says it’s a good sign. If things go well, I’ll be fully recovered in a few months."
A wave of emotion surged through Ava, her fingers trembling slightly as tears of joy rose in her eyes. "That’s amazing. I can’t wait to see you walk again."
She blinked away her tears, a warm smile curving her lips. "I’ll try to finish up early and come home soon. Wait for me, okay?"
Dylan chuckled softly on the other end. "I’ll be waiting."
With a lingering smile, she ended the call, her heart feeling lighter. She turned her focus on the laptop and set her fingers on the keyboard, ready to wrap up her pending tasks as quickly as possible.
Dylan had barely ended his call with Ava when his phone rang again. His smile faded, replaced by a solemn expression as he saw Henry’s name on the screen.
"Hello," he answered.
"Dylan," Henry sounded serious, "I found something about the poison."
Dylan stiffened, his curiosity piqued. "What did you find?"
