My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back

Chapter 309: Lydia’s phone call

Ava’s brows shot up in surprise. "A nightmare?" She tilted her head, taken aback.

Dylan nodded. Actually, he was telling the truth. Through his nightmares, he realized he had been reborn.

"In that nightmare," he continued, "I saw myself hurting you—in ways I can’t even begin to describe." His throat tightened as the images flashed before his eyes—her pain, her suffering, her tragic end.

Ava’s fingers slackened in his grasp, her pulse quickening. His insides clenched in nervousness when he saw the change in her expression. But he had already decided to tell her everything.

Taking a steadying breath, Dylan pushed forward. "By the time I realized my mistakes, it was already too late. You—" he faltered for a moment before forcing himself to continue, "You left me." Steeling his heart, he added, "I saw you... lying there. Covered in blood. Motionless in the hall."

A chill raced down her spine, her mind reeling. He was describing her past—her death. But how? How could he see something he had never witnessed? Could it truly be just a nightmare? Or was it something more?

"I regretted everything," Dylan went on, his grip on her hand tightening as if afraid she would slip away. "I realized what my vengeance had cost me. And then... I learned the truth. Thomas wasn’t responsible for the accident. It was someone else—the same person who poisoned me. The one who killed me."

Ava jerked back as if struck. Her heart pounded violently against her ribs. The fear in her chest coiled tighter. "Enough," she burst out. "That’s a horrible nightmare. I don’t want to hear anymore."

"I won’t talk about those awful things," he comforted her gently. "I know it’s disturbing. But that nightmare—it changed me. It made me realize just how much you meant to me. I knew then, more than anything, that I could never lose you again."
