Chapter 298: Dylan is no longer fit to run the company.
Luke smirked, rolling the stack between his fingers, the crisp bills rustling softly. Erica watched him, taking a sip of her drink. A strange unease stirred within her. Why was Luke accepting money from this man?
"That’s great," Luke slipped the cash into his pocket and stood up. "I need to use the bathroom." He strode toward the hallway, his footsteps fading as he disappeared from view.
Left alone with Luke’s friend, Erica shifted uncomfortably. The silence between them stretched, heavy and expectant. His gaze lingered on her, unreadable yet intense, making her pulse quicken. For the first time, she wondered if she had made a mistake coming here.
She shifted in her seat, gripping the glass in her hands, wishing she could disappear, or better yet—flee. But that wasn’t an option. She couldn’t upset Luke.
"Miss Erica, are you dating Luke?" he asked.
"Uh...It’s not like that. We have a good connection, but dating... that depends on Luke. If he wants to make me his girlfriend, I’ll readily accept it."
The man chuckled. ’Girlfriend?’ He scoffed inwardly. ’Such a naive woman. Luke would never make a slut like you his girlfriend.’
"My friends are coming to the party," he said casually, taking a slow sip. "See if you like any of them. Don’t waste your time on Luke." He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other, his smirk widening. "He is a playboy. He is not serious about you—it’s just a fling."
The words hit Erica like a slap, and for a moment, she struggled to keep her expression neutral. She knew Luke had no feelings for her. She was just like another woman he fucked. But sadly, she had to obey him to repay her debts.
