Chapter 291: Lydia, the hidden enemy?
The faceless shadow that had haunted his nightmares—the one responsible for Thomas’s death, for his own cruel demise—it had been her all along.
His breath came in slow, controlled inhales, but the fury burning inside him was impossible to mask.
"Why does she hate my father so much?" Ava’s voice broke through his thoughts. "Our families had good ties for generations. Your father and my father were best friends. What made Lydia hate my father? Did he wrong her somehow? Or is she misunderstanding him... like you once did?"
Ava was confused. No matter how hard she tried to piece things together, she couldn’t understand why Lydia harbored such deep hatred toward her father.
Her only explanation was that Lydia must have misunderstood Thomas—perhaps she believed he was behind the tragic accident that had taken the lives of Dylan’s parents. But was that enough reason to go to such extremes?
Dylan’s gaze snapped to hers, his eyes unreadable, but burning with something dark and dangerous. His past and present had finally collided.
He clasped the phone tightly, his eyes ablaze. He was sure Lydia’s actions were not because of some misunderstandings, but they were intentional. Calculated. Cold.
In his past life, she had poisoned him without hesitation. She had confessed—mockingly, mercilessly—that she had done the same to Thomas. Yet, despite knowing all this, he didn’t know the actual reason.
"I don’t know either," he said at last as he handed the phone back to her. "But I don’t think it’s just a misunderstanding."
Ava narrowed her eyes, studying Dylan’s face as if searching for an answer hidden in his expression.
"Remember the accident back then?" His voice deepened, pulling her into the past. "Your father’s car had issues—the brakes failed. That’s why the car lost control and crashed off the bridge into the river."
