My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back

Chapter 228: Walking together.

Dylan blinked, the initial surprise melting into something gentler. He had planned to have dinner with her and that was why he had called her to ask if she could join him. If he hadn’t called her, he wouldn’t have known she had been in trouble.

"You didn’t have to," he said softly.

Ava’s cheeks flushed faintly, offering the glass instead. "I wanted to."

Dylan reached out, his fingers brushing hers as he took the glass. The brief touch sent a jolt through him. "Thanks."

For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.

"Don’t worry about me," Dylan broke the silence. "I’m not hungry." He lied. "What about you? If you are hungry, I’ll go cook something for you."

Ava pressed her lips together. After the meeting with Scott, they had planned to dine together. But that unexpected incident had derailed their plan.

"I’m fine. I’m not hungry either."

Dylan immediately knew she hadn’t eaten. "I see. Then uh...shall we go out and have some supper?" he asked hesitantly. "We can have ice cream afterward. But if you are tired..."

"Let’s go out," she said without hesitation, cutting him short. It was as if she was excited with the idea. "I’ll...go change my dress." She hurried back to her room.

Dylan stood in the doorway, watching her retreating figure with a smile. The tension that had gripped him moments ago seemed to fade into the background. He lifted the glass, taking a small sip.
