My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back

Chapter 200: The dilemma

Ava’s smile faded, her gaze lowering to her fingertips as a cloud of sorrow passed over her face. "Things between Dylan and me have reached a point where I can’t imagine returning to him." She forced a faint smile. "Yes, I can see the changes in him. He is trying, and that’s good. But there are some wounds that time can only heal, not erase. The pain in the heart may dull but forgetting everything as if it never happened – that’s impossible. A shattered glass can’t be pieced back together. Neither can a broken heart."

Lilianna didn’t say anything. She observed her, feeling her pain. "I understand," she finally said. "It’s not easy to forgive, let alone forget. But if your decision to keep your distance from Dylan is because of Erica’s return, then I think you might misunderstand him. He has his plan to expose her. That’s why he allowed her to return."

"Exposing Erica!" Ava repeated, confusion mingling with disbelief. She had never thought of this possibility.

Lilianna nodded, her gaze steady. "Dylan found her connection with the stealing the company’s fund. Right now, he doesn’t have the evidence of her direct connection with it yet to take legal action. That’s why he brought her back. He is working with Rylee Shaw to gather proof and expose her."

Ava blinked, stunned by the revelation. She had known about Dylan’s meetings with Rylee but had no idea Erica was part of the larger scheme. Memories of Dylan trying to explain his reasons for lifting the ban on Erica flickered through her mind. Each time, something had interrupted him before he could fully clarify. Now, the truth was out, and it hit her like a wave.

Her chest tightened with a mixture of distress and regret.

Dylan had been working tirelessly to mend the fractures in their relationship, yet she had continued to view him through the lens of her painful past. And most importantly, he had gone out of his way to ensure her father’s surgery was a success.

This Dylan wasn’t the cold, detached man she remembered from her previous life. He had been by her side, fighting to save her father in her darkest hour.

’Maybe he has genuinely changed,’ she thought. ’Maybe history doesn’t have to repeat itself.’
