"Why? Why did you bring me here?" Jodie asked, her voice trembling.
"Why?" Erica’s lips curved into a bitter smile, her expression remained chillingly guarded. "Because you made yourself a liability. Do you realize what a reckless fool you’ve been? Posting those photos from your laptop, leaving a trail for Dylan to follow. He is hunting for you like a rabid dog. And now, you’ve become a threat to me."
Jodie’s chest rose and fell rapidly under her cold glare. She was afraid Erica would hurt her. "I—I did it for you!" she stammered. "I thought the rumors about Ava would infuriate him enough to fire her, but things didn’t turn out as planned. It’s not my fault."
"Yes, it wasn’t your fault. The plans can fail sometimes. But exposing yourself was stupidity – a mistake I can’t ignore. Your mistake has consequences." Erica squatted down in front of Jodie, pulling out a hidden knife from her back.
Jodie recoiled further into the wall. "No! Please! You don’t have to do this!"
Erica leaned in closer and murmured ominously, "Unfortunately for you, Jodie, I can’t take chances."
Jodie’s face turned ghostly white as she looked at the cold, glinting blade. Her body trembled uncontrollably, the looming threat of death choking any sense of rationality.
"Please, forgive me," she whimpered. "I’ve always been loyal to you. I’ve worked for you for so long. Please spare me this time—I promise I won’t fail you again."
"Oh? You mean you’re still willing to work for me?" Erica’s lips curled into an almost amused smirk.
