"Yes."
"I see..." There was a brief hesitation before Nicholas added, "I looked into where he went and found out he traveled to Hawaii. But I couldn’t uncover the reason for his trip. Everything was kept confidential."
"It’s okay," Ava responded lightly, trying to downplay the situation. Dylan had already confided in her. "I talked to him, and he explained everything."
"Oh, so you know now."
"Yes. It was about some internal company matters. But everything has been resolved."
"That’s great." Nicholas’s tone carried a faint trace of disappointment. He had secretly hoped Dylan’s secretive trip would widen the rift between him and Ava, giving him a reason to step in again. But it seemed they had worked through their misunderstandings.
It was good that Ava had resolved issues with Dylan. Despite Dylan’s arrogance, Nicholas had noticed the man’s genuine affection for her. If Dylan could temper his impulsive nature and become more sensible, he might be able to provide Ava with the happiness she deserved.
A faint, bittersweet smile curved Nicholas’s lips. At that point in his life, Nicholas knew he couldn’t hold on to her. He couldn’t tie her up into a relationship for his selfish desire.
’She deserves someone who can be with her for the rest of her life, not someone like me who can die anytime,’ he mumbled in his mind.
