Chapter 171: Did you post those photos?
"Yes, he is a Baker," Dylan replied, unflinching. "But Nicholas is different from the rest of them. Let me remind you: Elijah Baker has never acknowledged him as part of the family. Nicholas has been cast out by his own family. How can you possibly think he has a close bond with the Bakers?"
His words compelled everyone to reconsider. Faces softened, and the initial hostility began to wane, replaced by a growing unease. But Nina wasn’t done yet.
"How long can he stay upset with his family?" she argued. "Blood ties aren’t easily broken. You can’t trust him and Ava – we shouldn’t. I advise you to fire her before she causes real harm to the company."
"Enough," Dylan roared, his composure breaking for the first time. "I’ve been patient, trying to reason with you, but your insistence on tarnishing Ava’s name raises questions. Why are you so adamant about this? Your persistence makes me wonder if you’re hiding something."
Dylan’s sharp eyes narrowed on Nina with suspicion. "Did you post those photos and fuel these rumors? Are you the one behind this slander?"
Nina gasped, her bravado faltering for the first time.
All eyes shifted toward Nina, their gazes filled with skepticism. Even Ava was also curious. But what caught her off guard was Dylan’s demeanor. Not once had he directed his frustration at her. Instead, he had turned his ire on Nina, questioning her motives.
It was something Ava had never noticed before. For a moment, Ava allowed herself to ponder. Over the past few days, she had noticed his effort to bridge the chasm between them.
