Chapter 61: The danger
Ava quickly pulled out her phone and started filming them, her hands shaking with nervousness. She crouched low beneath the open window as she listened to their conversation.
"I can’t stay here any longer." Brian’s face was tight with anxiety. "I fooled Nicholas Baker and convinced him you weren’t with me that day, but it won’t hold forever. That man is dangerous. And Dylan? He is even worse. If he finds out the truth, he’ll kill us both. We need to leave, right away."
"No," Gianna said sharply, "I’m not running away—not yet. This time, I’ve set up a trap so perfect that Ava can’t escape. Dylan won’t find out anything. He trusts me completely."
Her words sent a shiver down Ava’s spine. Dylan’s trust was like a weapon, which gave her the courage to go all out against Ava.
"As long as Dylan blames the Williams for his parents’ deaths, he will never trust Ava," Gianna continued with smug assurance. "We’re winning this game. And Nicholas – he is just an illegitimate son of the Bakers. He is nothing compared to Dylan."
Brian, however, wasn’t convinced. "It won’t take long for Dylan to lose his faith in you," he warned. "Nicholas is determined to find out what happened that day. I don’t know what kind of relationship he has with Ava, but he is not going to stop until he exposes you."
He grabbed her shoulders, his worry palpable on his face. "I’ve spoken to a friend. His cargo ship leaves for Bangkok tonight. Come with me. We can escape all of this—live peacefully, far away from the danger. If you stay here, Gianna, you’re either going to end up in jail or worse—dead."
Gianna wouldn’t go anywhere with him. ’A loser like you won’t be able to give me the life I want,’ she thought, suppressing a smirk. To her, Brian was merely a pawn. She had never liked him.
With a sweet smile plastered on her face, she leaned in closer, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Of course," she purred. "We’ll have a peaceful life together. I’ll come with you."
