“Well, just like in the high society where you come from where people tend to marry each other for business gains and conveniences, it’s very similar in my world as well. It’s very common for the heir of outstanding families in the field to marry. Our fathers were best friends too, so it was quite natural that we would become engage,” Reiner explained smoothly.
I didn’t like where this seemed like it was going but I decided to take his advice and listen all the way to the end anyways.
“Aha...” I mumbled to show that I was still listening.
“I didn’t think much of it when I found out about the deal that our father had made. Honestly, I thought that the engagement would naturally be called off when Rachael gets older and finds a man that she wants to marry...” Reiner continued calmly.
Things may have worked out that way if the man that she wanted to marry didn’t happen to be Reiner.
“You shouldn’t have renewed your engagement with her. Did you honestly think that I would just give up on you and go home?” I asked him challengingly.
Reiner seemed taken aback by my direct words, but I decided to hold my ground.
“True. I didn’t think that you would be this stubborn,” Reiner said.
“Why did you have to put it like that? Why don’t you see that it’s because I can’t just give up on you...despite all that...and how mean you were to me...” I said as I pouted at him.
