Chapter 435: There are all kinds of surprises in this world (M)
Without even changing my clothes, I stepped into the portal and tiptoed around the garden, trying to suppress my presence as much as possible. I did stop a servant on the way tough, and asked them where Natha was. Thanks to them, I found out that Natha was still in his office.
I glanced at the darkening sky outside the Castle. He still worked at this hour? He usually came back to the Lord’s quarters when I still lived there, so...was he staying late to take care of the wedding business, or was it because this was his schedule when I wasn’t around?
Hmm...
Instead of going there directly, I turned toward the library and used the secret tunnel in one of the private rooms that I had taken with Eruha before. Kind of weird walking along the place alone, but I could make hovering fireballs by myself now, so I made a lot to accompany my journey.
Anyway, I sprinted through the tunnel--certainly not because I was afraid of ghosts popping out--and arrived at the end of the way in no time. Carefully maneuvered through the closet, I opened the cupboard’s door to an almost empty pantry. Figured--it had passed the usual working hour for the office staff.
There were still two staff there, however, perhaps waiting for Natha to come back. I pressed my finger against my lips so they wouldn’t make any sound that would announce my presence, and scurried toward the room adjacent to Natha’s office. I could hear voices from there, and tiptoed my way toward the door, creaking it open to peek inside.
Natha was at his desk, surrounded by his staff. Malta was also there, talking nonstop about the documents he kept giving Natha. It was my first time hearing her talking that much, and it was quite astonishing since her face was barely changing. And she was talking so fast that I had to activate the translation spell behind my ear to catch what they were talking about.
Seemed like they were talking about the details of the festival and the parade, more exclusively about the traffic. Apparently, having a royal wedding was not a good enough reason to stop trade and transactions from happening, so they needed to plan the route, diverting the road to the commercial district, making temporary rules for the incoming goods and whatever else they were talking about.
I tuned out halfway because even with the translation spell, Malta’s words were just too technical and I didn’t have enough brain capacity to understand it. I ended up just crouching behind the door wondering when would be a good time for me to come in, since they seemed to be very busy.
