Chapter 30: Please don’t tease a virgin
"Oh!" Zia and Angwi clapped their hands, and even Jade chirped loudly as if agreeing.
"Like...into a demon?" I blinked my eyes repeatedly, and strangely felt excited. I suddenly remembered Halloween on earth, something that I had never experienced too. Although I remembered some volunteers going around the children’s ward with costumes.
"No," Natha answered swiftly, to my dismay. "Humans and demons are way too different in terms of appearance, and it’s harder for the spell to last for a long time if there’s too much change to be made."
I tilted my head in confusion. "Then?"
His hand came back to my hair, rubbing the strands between his fingers, before softly stroking my earlobe. "The best kind of lie is the one with a half-truth," he smiled, rubbing the tip of my ear. "Isn’t that right, my dear Druid?"
My eyes widened at that, finally realized why he’d been rubbing my ear. Perhaps because I had just experienced what Natha called a bloodline awakening, my heart was beating faster too. The thought of turning into a full Druid excited me more than I thought it could be, even if it was just a disguise.
"Unlike humans, the children of nature were quite accepted here, so you wouldn’t have to be worried about receiving hostile look," Natha took another cookie and again, put it in my mouth. "And since you’ll essentially be a foreigner, you can act like a tourist as much as you want. No one would get suspicious even if you get confused and questioned everything."
Wow, so meticulous. I just nodded while finishing the cookie in my mouth. He brushed a stray hair on my face and tucked it behind my ear, looking at me keenly. "We can wear costumes too if you like."
Gasp. Like a cosplay? Like a real Halloween?
"Oh, can we? Can we? There’s a carnival on the third day, right?" Zia chimed in energetically.
"Really?" I asked again to make sure. Sure, the disguise itself already felt like cosplay, but since I’d come as either a druid, it didn’t feel like I’d really transform or anything.
