The Hidden King's Stolen Wife

Chapter 61: Back ’Home’

"His Majesty is waiting for your presence in the throne room, Your Highness, Sir Ralph," the guards at the gate bowed to them when they arrived, their tone oddly respectful.

Soleia raised an eyebrow as she watched the guard lead them into the palace, the place she once called home. The walls had never seen colder than now, especially since it had been two years since she last set foot into the capital.

Every look that was thrown her way was filled with surprise and judgment, followed by a series of murmurs that were just a little too soft for her to catch. One, however, happened to be loud enough.

"Isn’t that Princess Soleia? What’s she doing back here?"

"Haven’t you heard? Her husband, that peasant general, arrived a few days ago. He brought a new bride and is currently waiting for His Majesty’s approval to marry her."

"Oh dear. And His Majesty has agreed?"

"Of course not! They are waiting for Her Highness to arrive before making any decisions. I heard..."

The conversation eventually trailed off the further Soleia and Ralph walked from the gossiping maids, and although Soleia would’ve wanted to hear more of the conversation, it was not to be. After all, they were about to be part of that drama and experience it firsthand.

"We have arrived," the guard announced. He stood to one side and gestured to the door. "His Majesty will see you now." However, he looked at Ralph and said, "Only the Princess is permitted to enter."
