Chapter 63
As the news of the arrest and impending trial spread, the public began to react. Some were outraged, demanding justice for the victims and their families. Others were skeptical, wondering how long it had taken for the authorities to finally take action.
The Monfort Court House of Heroes was packed with people, all eager to see Arkus Maguire whether he will be guilty or not. The air was thick with anticipation as the proceedings began.
The prosecution led by a judge which is a Hero that has the ability to detect lies, presented their case against Arkus Maguire. The first witness, Sir Nolan, took the stand, his eyes fixed on Arkus as he began to recount the events leading up to Kaelith’s death.
"When we went to the Spire of the Damned to subjugate it, Arkus Maguire was acting strangely that day," Sir Nolan said, his voice steady. "He was argumentative and aggressive, and before I lost my consciousness because of the Chromids, I saw him arguing with Kaelith near the cliff . I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now I realize that it was a crucial moment in the sequence of events that led to Kaelith’s murder."
Sir Adriel, the next witness, corroborated Sir Nolan’s testimony.
"I was also a part of the squad. Although I didn’t see the whole incident, I have a camera recorder with me at that time and it showed the footage of Arkus mercilessly killing Sir Kaelith."
The prosecutor presented the video clip as evidence along with Arkus’ spear.
Arkus’ face turned white as a paper when he saw the weapon.
"H-How? How did you get that?!"
He can’t help but unintentionally yelled, his face turning red with rage while pointing at the weapon.
Arkus’s eyes seemed to glaze over as he stared at the footage, his expression unreadable. But as the evidence mounted against him, he began to fidget and sweat.
