The System Awakens: Rise of the Champion

Chapter 308 - 309: The Explorers - 3

Horus, the God of the Sky, Kingship, Protection, Rule, and Rightful Order, slowly raised his head and turned his gaze toward his grandfather, the Elder God King, Ra.

The sight that greeted him caused his already weakened body to tense.

High above the battlefield, Ra was engaged in a fierce battle against one of the three gods who had invaded their universe from a foreign reality.

They had come as nothing more than invaders, thieves, and destroyers, seeking to plunder the resources of their universe for themselves while bringing nothing but destruction and annihilation to the life that existed within it.

Their arrival had transformed the battlefield into a scene of devastation.

And the most terrifying part was that even the gods of the Egyptian Pantheon had been unable to escape the consequences of their assault.

Horus was a third-generation god of the Egyptian Pantheon. As the God of the Sky and Kingship, he possessed immense divine power and stood among the strongest members of the pantheon.

His strength was so great that he could contend with Set himself, the God of War and the strongest battle god within the Egyptian Pantheon.

Yet, in the face of the Nether Energy of the Void, even his formidable power had proven insufficient.

The destructive energy had infiltrated his body during the explosions, continuously burning away his divine energy, life force, and physical godly form.

It was an agonizing experience.

The Nether Energy did not merely damage his body. It consumed the very foundation of his existence, devouring his Divine Essence with a terrifying efficiency that left Horus unable to resist.

Had his grandfather not intervened, he would have already perished.

Ra had utilized his dominion over the Divine Concept of Regeneration, alongside his other powerful Divine Concepts, to purge the Nether Energy from Horus's body.

But even after the terrifying energy had been removed, its damage remained.

Horus could feel it.

His divine energy had been drastically weakened, and no matter how much he attempted to recover it, the energy he had lost refused to return.

It was as though a portion of his very existence had been severed.

Or perhaps...

The Nether Energy had left behind an effect that even Ra had been unable to completely eliminate.

Horus did not know.

What he did know was that his connection to the source of his divine power felt distant and broken.

His physical body had managed to regenerate after he had been forced to sever his wings, one hand, and one leg, all of which had been affected by the Nether Energy.

His regeneration had restored his physical form.

But his Divine Essence was another matter entirely.

The portion of his essence devoured by the Nether Energy had not recovered.

Not even slightly.

And without the restoration of his Divine Essence, Horus found himself incapable of returning to his True God Form.

He had tried.

Again and again, he had attempted to force his divine power into action, desperately trying to reclaim the form that had once come as naturally to him as breathing.

But nothing happened.

His divine authority remained silent.

His energy refused to respond.

No matter how much he struggled, his body remained trapped in its human form.

A form that had once been nothing more than a disguise now felt like a prison.

Horus slowly turned his head and surveyed the surrounding battlefield.

His expression changed.

It was not just him.

Every god and goddess who had been caught in the explosions was in the same condition.

Some lay motionless across the shattered ground, while others struggled to move their weakened bodies. None of them could utilize their Divine Authorities, and none could activate the abilities they had once wielded with ease.

They had been reduced to helplessness in a single attack.

The thought caused Horus's teeth to grind.

Ra's dominion over the Divine Concept of Regeneration, combined with his other powerful Divine Concepts, had allowed him to neutralize the Nether Energy within their bodies.

Without his intervention, the gods and goddesses would have already died.

Yet, even after being saved from certain death, they had been left in a state of complete incapacitation.

Their Divine Essence had been damaged.

Their divine energy had been consumed.

And their connection to their respective sources of power had been disrupted.

Horus placed one hand against the ground and slowly pushed himself upward.

His muscles trembled.

His body felt heavy.

Every movement required an effort that should have been unnecessary for a god of his stature.

He gritted his teeth and forced his weakened body to stand.

The moment he straightened his back, his legs nearly gave out beneath him.

Horus hurriedly steadied himself, breathing heavily as he struggled to maintain his balance.

This...

His fingers curled into fists.

Is this what it feels like to be mortal?

He had possessed divine power for countless years. He had stood above ordinary beings and wielded authority over the heavens.

Yet now, simply standing upright had become a struggle.

He felt as though he had been stripped of everything that made him a god.

And then his gaze shifted toward the distant sky.

There, Ra was still fighting.

The Elder God King, the supreme ruler of the Egyptian Pantheon and the most powerful god among them, was locked in combat with one of the three invading gods.

But the battle was not going as Horus had expected.

Ra was being overpowered.

Horus's eyes widened.

For a moment, he could not believe what he was witnessing.

His grandfather was being driven backward by a single opponent.

The immense power released by their clash distorted the surrounding space, sending waves of destructive energy across the heavens.

Even from a distance, Horus could feel the terrifying might radiating from the foreign god.

How...

His throat tightened.

How can someone from a foreign universe possess such strength?

Ra was the Elder God King.

The strongest god in their pantheon.

A being whose power had stood above the rest of the Egyptian gods for ages.

Yet, even he was struggling against one of the invaders.

Horus's expression gradually turned solemn.

A deep sense of unease settled within his heart as he watched the battle unfold.

"To think..." he muttered, his voice low and strained.

"The gods of a foreign universe... are this powerful."

His gaze remained fixed upon Ra.

For the first time since the invasion had begun, Horus realized that their enemies might possess enough strength to threaten the entire Egyptian Pantheon.

And judging by the battle unfolding before him...

They might even possess enough power to threaten their entire universe.

A sudden flash of light erupted across the sky.

In an instant, the entire blue expanse was drenched in blinding white radiance, as though the heavens themselves had been swallowed by an overwhelming force.

A drop of ember descended from the sky at terrifying speed.

It tore through the air with overwhelming power before crashing into the land with enough force to annihilate everything within a radius of several hundred feet. The earth was obliterated, reduced to nothingness beneath the impact, while a colossal crater stretched across the landscape.

And at the very center of that destruction lay none other than the Elder God King, Ra.

His once-majestic figure was battered beyond recognition.

His divine presence, which had previously dominated the surroundings, was gradually fading. Golden blood trickled from the corners of his lips, while countless wounds marred his body. Yet the physical damage was not the only thing threatening him.

The invading god's Authorities had seeped into his very being, suppressing and cancelling out his own divine powers.

As a result, Ra's ability to recover had been severely compromised.

For the first time in a long while, the Elder God King found himself in a dangerous situation where even restoring his own body had become a difficult task.

Above the crater, a figure slowly descended through the blinding radiance.

He possessed the appearance of the Heavenly Father of the ancient Biblical pantheon. Yet, unlike an ordinary divine being, his entire body seemed to be composed of pure light energy, radiating an overwhelming brilliance that distorted the air around him.

A contemptuous sneer spread across his face as he gazed down at Ra.

"After that grand declaration, I thought you would at least put up a fight."

His voice carried an unmistakable arrogance, echoing across the devastated landscape.

"But you're just like the rest of them."

The invading god slowly raised his chin, looking down upon the battered Elder God King as though he were nothing more than an insignificant insect.

"I suppose that's what I should expect from an underdeveloped universe like this."
