Zhang Su watched as Zheng Xinyu scurried off, her thoughts transparent to him. She lacked decisiveness, which was fine by him—it meant she wouldn’t voice unnecessary opinions.
Kneeling on the ground, Zhong Xiaoshan stared intently at Zhang Su. She had completely grasped the situation: the man before her was her last lifeline.
“Brother, handsome brother!” Zhong Xiaoshan scooted closer and clung to Zhang Su’s leg, looking up at him with pitiful eyes. “Please, save me. As long as you give me a bite to eat, I’ll do anything for you. I can even sleep with you!”
Zhang Su was speechless. On one hand, she seemed to have some boundaries; on the other, she was willing to abandon all pride for food. He couldn’t decide if she had no principles or just practical ones.
“Right now, who has the time for that? Get up and take me to your place. If there’s anything worth trading, I can give you some food.”
Zhang Su pulled her up and gestured for her to lead the way.
He enjoyed women and was far from faithful, but he had experienced enough that their allure had waned, especially in an apocalyptic crisis.
“Sure... alright,” Zhong Xiaoshan replied hesitantly. When Zhang Su mentioned going to her place, her expression grew strange, her gaze evasive, as though she wanted to refuse. Ultimately, she swallowed her words and slowly moved toward the door.
