Naval Gacha System: It's Time To Monopolize The Seven Seas!

Chapter 317 - 317: | 317 | The Great War Part 5: Imperial Hope

Somewhere in the northern continental region of Europa...

In the distance, explosions bellowed behind the looming mountains as flashes of light blinded half of the clouded skies. The commander of the 801st Imperial Regiment watched the last northern stronghold collapse under the weight of the World Government. It was a saddening and horrific sight. An omen of what was about to come.

Trenches sprawled the open fields as artillery guns protruded from defensive positions scattered about the plains. Imperial soldiers wandered, preparing for a siege that would conclude with their inevitable deaths. A couple of months had passed since the League of Humanity concentrated its forces in the central continental region.

Imperial regiments who couldn't be evacuated in time were left behind, struggling until the very end. Such was the situation of the 801st Imperial Regiment. The last imperial forces in the northern continental region. Their stronghold had just fallen into the hands of the United Military, coercing them to withdraw the defensive lines.

"Sir, we have received reports from scattered battalions who couldn't evacuate in time. They planned on converging into our position and mount a defensive." An imperial officer reported to the commander, who stood in the peak of a hill. "I understand... The 801st Imperial Regiment will welcome them in the struggle against the World Government."

The commander nodded, looking away from the flashes behind the looming mountain ranges where the northern stronghold dwelled. "This defensive line is the last one in the northern continental region. Once broken, the forces of the World Government would reach the borders of the central continental region."

"Any news about our armored companies?" What they needed the most in this defensive was the support of armored companies. Without the armored vehicles provided by the Magus Tower, the World Government would pierce through the defensive lines like hot knife through butter. They wouldn't be able to stand a chance.

The withdrawal from the northern stronghold caused the 801st Imperial Regiment to be broken into pieces. Some imperial regiments were lost alongside the armored companies that supported the battlefront. Hundreds of thousands of imperial personnel were lost during the retreat. The thought alone made him grind his teeth.

"No news, sir... We have sent signals towards the mountain range and none have answered them. I believe that the armored companies have already fallen." The imperial officer sighed, recognizing the direness of their circumstance. The 801st Imperial Regiment was alone without reinforcements from the central continental region.

Against the war machines of the World Government, they stood no chance.

When they returned to the temporary command center, radios buzzed as communication operators guided numerous scattered imperial battalions. The location of the defensive line wasn't secret. The problem however was the fact that a minefield had already been erected hundreds of kilometers from the defensive network.

If the imperial battalions weren't cautious, they would be blown up into tiny bits.

As a communication operator steered a random imperial battalion, a jammer struck the defensive network, flooding distorted sounds that made everything incomprehensible. He gritted his teeth, feeling his eardrums barely keeping itself from erupting. Blood dripped from his nose as a voice entered his ears.

"This is the Imperial Guard... Reinforcements will reach the northern continental region in 24 hours. I repeat, addition imperial forces have been deployed into the region. Survivors must maintain their positions until the reserves bolster your positions." It came from none other than the Imperial Guards of the League of Humanity.

The voice was filled with distortions, yet it was brimmed with determination. The communication operators who heard the voice felt relief soothe their hearts. Just when they thought all hope was lost. Their saviors had finally arrived. Their resistance against the siege of the United Military wasn't all for naught. The broken lives of their comrades continued to fuel hope.

When one of the communication operators regained his bearing, he immediately stood up and bolted towards the command center. His behavior attracted the attention of those nearby. As another communication operator explained to them. Their eyes lit up with anticipation. It was a great piece of news for the 801st Regiment.

As the communication operator reached the command center, he saw the regiment commander conversing with a battalion colonel. The commander raised their eyebrows, confused by the unexpected arrival of the operator.

"Sir... Reinforcements has finally come for us. The Imperial Guard! We only need to hold our position for 24 hours before they reach us!" His words echoed throughout the command center, astounding the commander and the colonel. They previously planned to fight until the end, never expecting to leave the battlefront alive.

But with the impending arrival of the Imperial Guard. All hope was not lost.

"Reinforcements?" The commander's lips lifted into a relieved grin as the colonel felt tears dripped from his bloodshot eyes. The remainder of the imperial regiments in the northern continental region had been fighting for every piece of land. Hills of corpses formed across several battlefields as the Steel Angels of the World Government burned everything into dust.

News spread throughout the defense network about the upcoming reinforcements of the Imperial Guard. The 801st Imperial Regiment merely needed to hold on for 24 hours before the support reached them. Hours passed, dusked fell, and dawned arrived. The morning sun rose from the edges of the blurred horizon. But the trenches were far from calm.

Alarms blared as a lone strategic ship hovered over the defense line of the imperial regiment. Positions throughout the landscape were bombarded, the screams and cries of soldiers echoed throughout the battlefield. A day ago, the imperial forces had been given hope for reinforcements.

Yet before these supports could even reach them, the blade of the World Government had already began reaping their lives.

In the command center, the imperial regiment commander gritted his teeth in annoyance. The tent shook as echoes of explosions blasted in the distance. The arrival of a strategic destroyer was within expectations. But it was troublesome regardless. The defense line of the 801st Imperial Regiment must not fall in the hands of the World Government.

Before the regiment commander could ponder about the bombarding strategic vessel, a beam of light flashed and blinded the skies. It came from the ground, a condensed energy capable of piercing the heavens and the earth. The distraught imperial soldiers froze, shocked. But as the flash of light faded, what replaced it was the descent of the ship that had tormented them.

Thick smoke exuded from the hull of the strategic ship, its jet-black surface gleaming under the heat permeated by the beam of light. As the vessel fell from the skies, a communication operator entered the command center. Hope flickered beneath their eyes as they reported. "The reinforcements from the Imperial Guard has arrived!"

The support they had been waiting for had finally reached them. As such, the regiment commander felt a heavy weight lift from his shoulders. Morale was boosted as a fiery determination spilled from his heart. He walked out of the command tent and saw the strategic vessel that had bombarded them descent from the heavens enveloped by smoke.

What was supposed to be the unstoppable had been slain.

Just as the United World Government developed their magical technology to extreme levels. The Magus Tower followed suit, delving in forbidden knowledge of the past. The constant arms race between the two great powers of the primordial world brought about weapons capable of conquering it.

Yet the conflict of the League of Humanity and the World Government was perpetual.

The ground rumbled as a grandiose piece of magic technology bore through the earth. It was twenty-five meters in diameter and over a kilometer long. Such was the vehicle capable of piercing through the shielding of a strategic destroyer. It was a secret weapon of the League of Humanity and the Magus Tower, a direct counter of the World Government's vessels.

Since the strategic ships of the United Military conquered the heavens above the earth, what about beneath it? Capable of concealing itself between mountains and plains, the Bahamut was the strongest vessel ever conceived by the Magus Tower. It had already proven its power and stealth. It would only be a matter of time until the lost territories were retaken.

With this in mind, the growing hope trapped within the despaired heart of the regiment commander began burning vehemently. The falling strategic vessel crashed onto the earth, causing it to shake. It was as though a disaster had struck the surrounding area. But such earthquake didn't bring fear. It brought the grim hope long lost.

"The League of Humanity will not fall! We shall resist and drive them off our homeland!" Even though the continent of Europa comprised of various species, most of its land had already been under the control of humankind. It wouldn't be inconceivable if they ever declared to own it. After all, the majority held power.

What followed the declaration of the regiment commander was the cheers and war cries of surviving imperial soldiers. Humanity shall persist, the League shall endure!
