Chapter 451 - 63 - Hug to keep warm
Chen had already made up his mind. they were going to City S.
But first, they needed to know where they were.
His gaze slowly moved toward the injured man sitting against the wall. "You."
The man immediately stiffened. "Me?"
"Where are we?"
The injured man's eyes darted toward the rifle before returning to Chen. "I... I'm not sure of the exact location."
Chen's brows immediately drew together. "Then tell me what you do know. which city and how far are we from city s"
The man hesitated.
Chen's patience snapped.
He grabbed the front of the man's shirt and hauled him upright. The injured man gasped, his face twisting in pain as his wounded arm was pulled against his chest.
"How far?"
"Wait—careful!" The man's good hand immediately grabbed Chen's wrist. "You're going to open the wound again!"
He released him, but his expression remained cold. "Then stop making me ask twice."
The man hurriedly adjusted his shirt, breathing heavily as he protected his injured arm. "We're quite a bit farther away from City S than you think."
"How far?"
"It's difficult to say exactly. A few days on foot, maybe more depending on the roads."
Chen's eyes narrowed. "A few days?"
"The roads aren't safe anymore," the man quickly explained. "There are abandoned areas, infected zones, and sometimes the roads are completely blocked. Getting there won't be easy."
Chen's jaw tightened. Of course it wouldn't. Nothing in this world seemed capable of being easy. "Then you can guide us."
The man stared at him. "You want me to?"
"You know the area."
The man's lips pressed together before he glanced down at his injured arm. "I can guide you... but I need something in return."
Chen's eyes narrowed further. "What?"
"Protection."
The man's voice became quieter.
He swallowed hard before continuing. "I'm badly injured. I won't survive long on my own. I barely made it here. If I leave this place alone, I might not even survive until tomorrow."
He slowly lifted his injured arm, revealing the makeshift bandage Chen had wrapped around it.
"I really want to live."
For the first time, Chen noticed the desperation in the man's face. His fingers were trembling slightly, and there was a sheen of sweat across his forehead despite the cold room.
He sighed. "Fine."
The man's shoulders immediately sagged with relief.
"But," Chen added, pointing the rifle directly at him, "if you try anything, anything at all, I'll shoot you."
The man quickly nodded. "I understand."
Chen lowered the rifle. "What is your name?"
"Liang Wei."
"Alright, Liang Wei. Tomorrow, you guide us to City S."
The decision settled, they prepared to spend the night in the storage room.
It wasn't comfortable, but it was enclosed, and after everything that had happened, four walls and a solid door were enough. Liang Wei settled down in one corner, while Chen positioned himself closest to the entrance with his rifle beside him.
Skyy sat behind him.
Trexa had already crawled back into Skyy's collar and was apparently determined to sleep through the apocalypse.
Chen glanced toward the little rat.
"She really can sleep anywhere."
Skyy smiled faintly. "She likes warm places."
"So I've noticed."
Chen looked away before Skyy could notice the small smile tugging at his own lips.
As the night grew colder, however, Skyy's smile slowly disappeared.
His shoulders began to tremble. At first it was barely noticeable. Then another shiver ran through him.
His eyes immediately moved toward him. "Are you cold?"
Skyy shook his head quickly. "No." Another shiver betrayed him.
Chen raised an eyebrow.
Skyy lowered his eyes. "...A little."
"Why didn't you say anything?" frowning he peered down at him.
"I didn't want to bother you."
The answer made Chen's expression soften. "You're not bothering me."
He hesitated for a moment before patting the space beside him. "Come here."
Skyy's eyes widened slightly.
Chen tried to sound casual, but his ears had already begun turning red.
Skyy hesitated before slowly moving closer.
The moment Chen wrapped an arm around him, Skyy went still.
So did Chen.
For a few seconds, neither of them moved.
Skyy could feel the warmth radiating from Chen's body through his clothes, and Chen could feel the slight tremble still running through Skyy's shoulders. Slowly, almost cautiously, Chen pulled him closer until Skyy's back rested against his chest.
"There," Chen murmured. "Better?"
Skyy nodded. "A little." Blushing slight he gazed back at him.
Their eyes met.
For some reason, neither of them looked away.
The dim light from the small lantern reflected faintly in Skyy's blue eyes. Chen's heartbeat stumbled, and he quickly cleared his throat.
"It's only because you're cold."
The sudden closeness made his breath catch.
He could feel Skyy's soft hair against his chin, and when Skyy shifted slightly, his cheek brushed against his chest.
Chen's fingers twitched.
He wasn't used to this.
He wasn't used to wanting to hold someone closer simply because they were there.
He certainly wasn't used to the strange warmth spreading through his chest whenever Skyy looked at him like that.
Chen swallowed and carefully tightened his arm around him.
Skyy noticed.
His fingers slowly curled into Chen's shirt.
Neither mentioned it.
For a while, they simply stayed that way.
A few minutes passed. The young man in his arms had already fallen asleep, but despite trying desperately Chen couldn't sleep one bit. The soft scent under his nose made his whole body heat up.
He could feel the blood coursing down to his nether regions.
Taking a deep breath, he tries to calm himself but that only made that skyy's scent infiltrate deeper into his being.
Then Skyy shifted in his sleep.
His body instinctively moved closer, seeking more warmth until there was almost no space left between them.
Chen tightly clenched his fist as he stared at the ceiling.
His face slowly became red again.
"Skyy..."
There was no response.
Skyy simply snuggled closer, his head tucked beneath Chen's chin.
Chen closed his eyes and took a slow breath.
He should move away.
That would probably be the sensible thing to do.
Instead, his arm tightened around Skyy's waist.
He pulled the blanket over both of them and settled back against the wall.
