Chapter 140
- ASAMI -
My eyes slowly drift open and I soak in the images in my environment. From what I can see, I can tell that I am in a very expensive, private hospital and most definitely on a bed, since my head faces the ceiling, lying down flat.
I try to move my hand but a wince accompanied with the crease of my brows makes me stop. My whole body throbs with an indescribable pain. I think it’s best I lay down here.
“Awake?” Owen’s voice makes a smile form on my face. I nod. Even my neck feels stiff. Well, that’s what happens when one falls down the stairs. I’m surprised I’m not covered in bandages. Owen is just that good of a doctor, but inside here is dimly yet well illuminated and I cannot sight any clocks hanging on the walls and I fear to ask for the time. That is if I can even talk:
“Thank you for meeting with me on short notice.” I finally murmur, testing my voice! I still speak! My voice is low but not damaged.
Owen examines my body then checks the drip, I didn’t notice, connected into the back of my hand. “It’s my pleasure. Despite all the odds and our differences in approach, I do care about you. Even when you’re being reckless.” He responds. That reply took way longer than I expected.
I try to move my finger to touch his but the ache in my joints stop me. I can’t tell if my body felt such tremendous pain before or if I feel worse but it sure is relaxing knowing I’m in safe hands. “Hearing that warms my heart.” I say feebly, my voice trailing softly like a breath.
“Can you talk? Audibly without pain?” Owen asks carefully, staring at me.
It hurts to move so I can’t nod so in blink instead. “Yes.” I croak.
“Do you want me to give you a strong dose of pain killers?”
“That’ll be nice.” I whisper, fully fatigued. The way my whole body hurts all at once, I can’t pin point the exact location of any seriously injured body part. It’s that bad. “Thank you.”
