I: [Um, can I call you on video?]
Lily: [No way!]
She directly refused.
I wouldn’t listen. I initiated the video call. She hung up on the first one, the second one as well, and the third one rang for over ten seconds before being hung up.
I persisted, dialing the fourth one; it rang for over thirty seconds before she answered.
In the video, her expression was serious. "Can’t we talk through messages? Why do we have to video call?"
She seemed a bit annoyed, but there was no hint of anger on her face. I knew this woman was conflicted.
She didn’t answer the previous calls because she wanted to play hard to get.
"Words can’t express my longing for you," I said.
A smooth talker through and through.
"William, what nonsense are you talking about?" She said, "Didn’t I say it before—I’m your superior, and we can’t be together."
