In the kitchen, Su Yunjin and her second sister swiftly prepared a full spread of dishes, a mix of meat and vegetables. The meat dishes included garlic snails, spicy prawns, braised fish, and clear stewed fish head.
The vegetable dishes included stir-fried green peppers, quick-fried cabbage, smashed cucumbers, and others that were very appetizing. They steamed a pot full of buns that were fragrant and piping hot.
As soon as they lifted the lid off the pot, the aroma of the buns wafted out. Su Ningxiu picked out four buns with a bowl and placed them on the table, while Su Yunjin went to fetch a jar of fruit wine for Gu Ya and Wang Meng to enjoy.
There were some dishes on the table that Su Yunjin couldn’t eat, such as the snails, but it wasn’t a problem; she simply didn’t eat them and enjoyed the others–like the braised fish and smashed cucumber that she liked.
After half a bun and a bowl of fish soup, Su Yunjin felt exceptionally full. Looking at her second sister and Wang Meng, they too seemed quite satisfied with their meal.
She had promised to give some fish and prawns to Wang Meng and her second sister to take home, and the leftover seafood, including the snails, was also packed for them to carry back.

After seeing off Wang Meng and her second sister, Ningxiu’s skirt was one Yunjin had lent her. The one she changed out of, Ningxiu asked Wang Meng to take and to wash it back at home.
Before leaving, Ningxiu looked at Yunjin and said, “Little sister, I’ll wash this skirt and then bring it back to you.” Ningxiu intended to return the skirt.
But Su Yunjin was planning to give the skirt to Su Ningxiu.
“Ningxiu, the skirt fits you quite well, so just take it. Besides, I’m pregnant now and can’t wear this kind of skirt anyway.”
The skirt was tailored with a defined waist.
Yunjin had just been able to wear it before she became pregnant. Now that she was showing, she couldn’t wear skirts with a fitted waist anymore. Yunjin wanted to gift the skirt to Ningxiu.
Wang Meng blurted out without thinking.
“Little sister, how could I accept this?” Ningxiu also felt it was too much, as she had already taken too many things from her younger sister today–food and supplies–and now to take her clothes would be excessive.
Yet Su Yunjin didn’t mind at all, “Ningxiu, we’re sisters, why be so formal with me? Besides, my sewing skills aren’t great, so I will need your help to make clothes for my unborn child in the future!”
