Avery Graham just isn’t interested in marriage, but she manages to live her life very well. Let it be, she thought, I’ll just let things take their natural course.
After looking around outside and not finding Avery Graham, her mother went straight into the Cake Shop. It was the first time she had visited since Avery opened the shop. She always thought that her daughter was just running the shop for fun, maybe to earn a salary to support herself and that would be it.
What she didn’t expect was how well her daughter’s business was doing and how many people loved her cakes. She wasn’t much of a sweet tooth herself; the treats that Avery brought home were always for Giselle Browman, and after Giselle moved in with Avery, she brought home even less from her shop.
"Ma’am, hello, what would you like to buy? We have sweet and non-sweet items," said the shop assistant enthusiastically. Avery’s mother nodded, "I’m looking for your boss, Avery Graham. Is she here? I’m her mother."
"So you’re Auntie! Sister Avery is here, inside. Please, this way," said the shop assistant, leading Avery’s mother inside.
Avery’s mother was walking this way when Avery happened to be seeing Bernard Taylor out. She and Avery’s mother met just like that, and Avery called out, "Mom, what brings you here?"
"Well, I was passing by and thought I’d take a look. Are you attending to customers? In that case, I’ll wait outside for you," replied Avery’s mother, sparing Bernard a glance before quickly looking away. Bernard was certainly impressive, but she didn’t dare look at him for too long, to avoid any misunderstanding with Avery.
"No need, Mom. Bernard is leaving. Come inside and sit down; I’ll send him out and be right back," Avery insisted, asking someone to bring a cup of hot water for her mother.
