Chapter 748: Surviving the Calamity (1)
When Gavin Campbell arrived home, it was already 11 p.m. Bryan Hawkins was there with Carolline Ruiz, along with Andy Aguirre and Megan Clifton. The four of them had been keeping Mr. and Mrs. Campbell company while they waited. Mrs. Campbell had heated the food in the pot twice before Gavin finally returned.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his beard unkempt, making him look as though he had gone through some ordeal.
Seeing their son return, even though it had only been a few months, felt like an incredibly long time for the Campbells. As soon as Mrs. Campbell saw her son, she lunged towards him and hugged him, crying out loud.
Gavin, a grown man, held his mother tightly and also cried. Mr. Campbell, standing by, had his eyes wet with tears. Everyone watched the heart-wrenching scene with tears in their eyes.
No one spoke, no matter how long the mother and son embraced.
Eventually, Mr. Campbell couldn’t hold back anymore. "Have you eaten? Your mother made a lot of your favorite dishes. Go and have some. How can you eat the food on the plane?"
"Dad–" Gavin nodded, noticing his father’s graying temples, which seemed even whiter than when he had left a few months ago.
"Come on, let’s eat. Andy, Carolline, and the others are here. They’ve been keeping us company and waiting for you to come back." Mr. Campbell reminded Gavin that his colleagues were there, and their current behavior might make them the laughingstock.
Gavin turned around and saw Andy and the others. He nodded to them, and Andy spoke up, "Gavin, it’s good that you’re back. Take a few days off and we’ll catch up at work. Meanwhile, spend some quality time with your parents."
