Carolline Ruiz stared directly at Mrs. Shen without any fear, and in an instant, the hateful gaze forced Mrs. Shen to back down.
"You quickly settle Elena down and then return to the ward." Mrs. Shen said to Daisy Willow. She couldn’t vent her anger at Carolline, so she vented it at Daisy instead.
As for Carolline, she wouldn’t let her off the hook either. It was too late tonight, but as soon as day broke, she would hand over the recorded evidence to the Dean’s Office.
"I understand, mom." Daisy Willow sighed with relief, thinking that Mrs. Shen had decided to let Carolline go. "Elena, Auntie Carolline will take you to sleep and tomorrow morning, your mom will wait for you to come for breakfast, okay?"
"Mhm." Elena nodded sensibly. She liked Carolline more and more because of her dominance over her grandmother, which her own mother never showed.
"Then you go back first, and I’ll come over later. Elena, let’s go. Auntie will take you to Axel’s grandparents’ house to sleep." There were beds in the duty room, but who knew what might happen in the middle of the night— it wasn’t ideal for a child to sleep in the hospital.
At ten o’clock, Carolline took Elena home. Emily Hill and Henry Ruiz warmly welcomed their young guest. Elena felt at ease being around Axel’s family and knew he must be happy to live in such a family.
"Auntie, where is Axel?" Elena asked while Carolline was helping her make the bed. She didn’t know how long she would be staying at the hospital, so she missed Axel.
