Chapter 1015: The Sky Grew Bright (II)
One day, while she was weaving at home, Lu Sheng burst in with his face flushed red and his body reeking of wine. He pushed open the door, seized their young son from the bed, and glared coldly, shouting, "You have not eaten for three years! What demon are you? This child wears human skin, but who is to say he is truly human? The Exalted Immortal on the road has told me long ago that you feed upon my official fortune by sharing my bed!"
The man was tall and brawny, his fury unrestrained. He seized the child and lifted him overhead in one motion. Li Ximing could not stop him, and Lu Sheng shouted, "Speak!"
When she still would not speak, Lu Sheng hurled the boy with all his strength. The child struck the stone with a sickening crack, his skull shattering and brains spilling out.
Li Ximing felt a surge of blood rush to his head. The chill in his mouth surged violently and his throat made faint sounds. It was as if she had been struck by lightning, and after a long struggle she finally uttered, "Puh..."
His[1] face alternated between ash and green, until he spat out a mouthful of blood, half his tongue with it, all mingling into a dark crimson pool that flickered in and out before his eyes.
He lifted his head. Lu Sheng’s furious visage was reflected in his eyes, yet it grew farther and farther away as he rose weightlessly, swiftly leaving behind these endless illusions.
The icy current rushed straight into his mind, and everything before his eyes faded into boundless darkness. All of his memories returned to him, and Li Ximing felt his entire body grow lighter.
The ice and snow within the Juque Court[2] melted rapidly. Fierce flames burst into existence, filling the aperture. Li Ximing felt as though he was rising from endless darkness toward infinite light. The gardenias were blooming, the camel bells were ringing, and his vision was dazzlingly bright.
Boom!
He felt himself enter the realm where boundless truths dwell. Darkness stretched around him, the stars above drawing near and far, and he could make out countless figures seated in meditation within the great void.
