Chapter 1059: The Grand Villa (4)
"She’s up, and went to visit her godmother," the Ruanlin Family’s mother said, finally showing a bit of a smile when mentioning Jiaojiao. Glancing at the peaches carried by the father and son duo, she added, "This year’s crop looks pretty good. Seems like we’ll have to spray every year, or the bugs will ruin them."
Turning her head, she said to Ruan Jiajie, "Split it into two portions and send one over to Xiaoxuan and the others."
"Alright." Ruan Jie was much more perceptive than his dad when it came to the women at home. He promptly went into the house, grabbed a bag, divided the peaches, and carried one portion next door.
Ruan Jie assumed someone would be home at the Lu Family’s place, but upon entering the courtyard, it was eerily quiet.
He made his way smoothly into the main entrance and into the living room but didn’t see anyone. Instead, as he stood downstairs, he faintly caught sight of a familiar figure upstairs near Lu Xian’s room, crouching with their little butt stuck out, looking sneaky like a thief.
He placed the bag of peaches on the table in the living room and started walking upstairs intentionally without masking his footsteps. Yet the small figure didn’t seem to notice at all. He walked up behind her and gave her a light nudge in the rear with his foot.
"Jiaojiao, what are you sneaking around doing, like a little thief?"
"Ahhh..."
Startled and unbalanced, Jiaojiao—already nervous about getting caught—wasn’t steady to begin with. Even though Ruan Jie had nudged her with hardly any force, she still lunged forward instinctively. About to fall face-first to the ground, Ruan Jie quickly grabbed the collar of her shirt from behind, preventing her crash landing and setting her back upright.
Once she steadied herself, she didn’t bother to fuss over the kick Ruan Jie had given her. Instead, she leapt up and frantically tried to cover his mouth, though at 5’0", next to Ruan Jie’s 6’1" frame, she resembled a tiny squash. Even jumping up, she couldn’t reach his mouth and ended up hanging awkwardly off of him in a strange posture.
