The next second, more than a dozen men charged toward them. Ruan Jianguo was the first to stand up, yanking Xiu Xi behind him, shielding him with his body, and glaring angrily at them: "Brothers, what is the meaning of this? Snatching children in broad daylight?"
The group of men didn’t respond but merely glanced back at the elderly man behind them. The impatience on the old man’s face clearly conveyed his orders. Two of the men grabbed Ruan Jianguo by the arms and attempted to drag him aside, while the others lunged toward Xiu Xi.
Ruan Jiaojiao was startled and instinctively got up to reach for Xiu Xi, but Ruan Hao stopped her in her tracks.
"Mom, Grandma, take Jiaojiao and step back a little," Ruan Hao instructed, his voice steady. Raised in the countryside, he’d grown up climbing trees to catch birds and fishing in rivers with Ruan Jun and the others. Naturally, he wasn’t one to be underestimated.
Although Ruan Jie wasn’t as sturdy as Ruan Jianguo just yet, standing tall, he was still more imposing than most men.
The two brothers immediately stepped forward to shield Xiu Xi.
