Ruan Jiaojiao had already run in to answer the phone.
"Hello," a burst of laughter came from the other end, and Ruan Jiaojiao immediately recognized who it was.
"Grandpa," she sweetly called, twirling the phone cord and laughing with her eyes squinted.
"Oh, Jiaojiao, you’re awesome, recognizing Grandpa’s voice," Grandpa Shu laughed heartily on the other side, obviously in a great mood.
"Yeah, Grandpa’s voice is etched into Jiaojiao’s heart, I’ll always remember it," Ruan Jiaojiao said with a laugh, her sweet voice almost irresistible.
Grandpa Shu on the other end laughed even more cheerfully, his laughter audible even through the phone to the surrounding people.
As a kid not favored by Grandpa, Ruan Jie scoffed, but he didn’t leave; he obediently sat nearby.
"Jiaojiao, do you miss Grandpa?" Grandpa Shu asked, a question he always asked during their calls. Previously, he wasn’t this straightforward in person, but maybe because it’s over the phone or maybe because he missed her too much, Grandpa Shu always asked directly, waiting for a satisfying answer before ending the call.
