Startled, Ruan Jiaojiao got up early again the next day and couldn’t fall back asleep once she woke.
By a little after nine in the morning, the Yuan Family’s carriage arrived at the Ruan Family’s courtyard gate.
Ever since Ruan Jiaojiao was taken out of the Yuan Family’s home by Xiu Xi last time, she had never been back. She always trusted Xiu Xi, believed whatever he said, and so when he said the old lady of the Yuan Family had done something wicked but did not want to elaborate, Jiaojiao hadn’t pressed for details.
However, the Yuan Family had indeed been good to her over the years, and it wasn’t possible for her to cut ties so abruptly. When the driver came to pick her up, she could only follow along, thankfully Xiu Xi was going with her this time.
After the last incident, Xiu Xi seemed to really dislike the Yuan Family. His expression had been rather foul since they got in the car.
Ruan Jiaojiao quietly took his hand, and only then did his expression soften slightly.
The carriage stopped inside the Yuan Family’s courtyard. As always, Nanny Liu was waiting outside, but before she could reach out to open the door, Xiu Xi had already alighted and rushed over, opening the door himself and then leading Ruan Jiaojiao out.
Nanny Liu’s face changed color, but she quickly regained her composure.
Ruan Jiaojiao remained as gracious as ever, thanking her, "Thank you, Granny Liu."
"No need, Miss. Please go in, the old lady is waiting for you," said Nanny Liu kindly.
Ruan Jiaojiao nodded, gave her another look, and wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt that Nanny Liu’s tone when speaking to her had changed, now more friendly and respectful than before.
