After saying all that, the Ruanlin Family faced the visitor with a smile and went out to greet them.

When Ruan Jiaojiao returned to the courtyard, the Ruanlin Family was making awkward conversation with her grandfather. Grandpa Shu had come by train, a journey of two days and one night. Although he had someone to take care of him the entire way, his old age, compounded by a recent recovery from a serious illness, truly made the journey exhausting.

But it was his first visit to his daughter’s home, and he wasn’t feeling settled, wanting to see more, thus he was persisting with effort.

Now, seeing Ruan Jiaojiao coaxing him to sleep, his heart went soft. Grandpa Shu, who never listened to anyone in the eyes of others, seemed to become a different person in front of Ruan Jiaojiao. He showed an awkward smile, then allowed himself to be helped to his feet by her.

Logically, Grandpa Shu should have stayed in Ruan Hao’s room, but Ruan Jiaojiao thought that since the Ruanlin Family did not like climbing stairs, Grandpa Shu also probably wouldn’t enjoy it, especially since he seemed to be less robust than her grandmother. So, she led him to Ruan Jian-Guo and Shu Jiao’s room.

"Grandpa, this is my parents’ room; you’d have to climb stairs to go upstairs, and it’s tiring. You can rest here first. Sleep well, and Jiaojiao will wake you up for dinner in the evening," Ruan Jiaojiao said as she pulled Grandpa Shu to the edge of the bed.
