By 12 noon, in addition to Lu Zhiwei’s table, four more tables of guests had arrived. Although they each ordered no more than three dishes, the Ruan Family felt elated, taking it as an auspicious sign.
After twelve, some more individual customers trickled in for a bowl of noodles or similar, filling nearly two more tables.
Ruan Jiaojiao and a few of the boys were too young to help with the heavy lifting, but they could serve tea and water. As a result, not only was the business good, but everything also ran smoothly, without any signs of disarray.
Ruan Jianmin had been an accountant in the village and was now taking care of the billing behind the counter.
By one o’clock in the afternoon, the restaurant became even busier, almost filling up the entire space. Even Ruan Jianguo hadn’t anticipated such an effect and was all smiles.
Around two o’clock, as the crowd thinned, the kitchen staff finally began preparing a meal for the family. Fearing that Ruan Jiaojiao might get too hungry, her mother had already let her eat earlier, and while the Ruan Family ate outside, she rested in the storeroom.
