Chapter 539: It Might or Might Not Happen
Calix quietly stared at Xander, sensing the regret in every word he spoke about his breakup with Violet. The gentle lapping of water against the lake bank created a soothing yet melancholy backdrop.
Behind them, Calliope was still energetically playing with Ryken and Davin. Leslie remained the watcher as she enjoyed the apple cider and the leftover apple pie.
Xander’s voice had grown lower and softer, imbued with the weight of regrets toward the end of his relationship with Violet.
"A breakup... She wanted one, instead of just a temporary separation," Xander sighed deeply, clasping his hands together as he stared into the shimmering lake, "I have to agree. I’ve hurt her more times than I can count."
Calix found it hard to comfort Xander verbally. He awkwardly extended his hand, weakly patting his friend’s broad back.
Once again, Xander showed his weak side to him. Seeing it still surprised Calix despite having witnessed it before.
"I regret it, Calix," Xander admitted, his shivering voice breaking slightly, "I love her but, the way I have treated her before... wasn’t how a man should treat the lady he loves."

The realization came too late for Xander. Even when he was ready to show how better he could be, Violet was already too worn out to care.
Calix couldn’t imagine how painful the breakup was to Xander. Despite all, his friend indeed had a heart.
As Axel, he had never experienced the heartwrenching pain of a breakup because Leslie was the only lady he was in a relationship with—until now.
As Calix, or rather, as the one having the original Calix’s memories, he remembered how the man suffered from his breakup and betrayal caused by Aria Jiang.
