Chapter 531: They Wouldn’t Ever Cross Paths Again
When Calix woke up this morning, his mood was somber as if dark clouds hanging above his head. His mind was preoccupied with the thought of meeting Nicholas.
The morning was bright with good weather but, his mood was far from his usual cheerful one. Watching his reflection in the mirror as he buttoned his shirt, he saw the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
"Honey, you’ll be fine."
Calix replied to Leslie’s soft encouragement with a tight hug. She returned with gentle strokes on his back, once again reminding him of her faith in him.
Despite preparing himself to meet Nicholas in the detention center, Calix couldn’t curb the uneasiness prodding in his heart. A mix of emotions was stirred within him.
Anger, determination and also a faint, reluctant pity for the man.
Calix understood the reasons driving Nicholas for revenge but, he wouldn’t ever justify the man’s heinous actions.
Even if Calix warned Nicholas not to mess with the Xu family, the snake-like man would just wait for another opportunity to strike again. He couldn’t risk it.
If Nicholas’ revenge succeeded, more lives would be ruined.
Nicholas’ company was in trouble from the night he and Daniel were arrested. Calix heard someone surnamed Tang currently led the operations.
No matter how much damage control Mr. Tang and his team did, they couldn’t avoid being investigated by the authorities. The involvement of the international police only worsened the issue for them.
