Chapter 499: She Was Indeed His Child
An excited Calliope made Xander the focus of her unfiltered attention during dinner. Every question that came out of her mouth only made the usually stoic Xander speechless.
"Uncle Xander, are you friends with Uncle Ryken too? You like Uncle Ryken too, right?"
Swinging her short legs under the table, Calliope kept staring at Xander with her round eyes, glimmering with curiosity. She was so interested in this other friend of her papa.
The chopsticks in Xander’s hand paused mid-air. His dark eyes returned the gaze Calliope gave her. He could tell how much the little dumpling liked Ryken from the question.
"Yes, Poppy. I’m friends with your Uncle Ryken too," answered Xander, his voice quiet. His eyes fell on the little girl sitting across the table.
Unsatisfied with something, Calliope tilted her head. She shot Xander with another question, "Uncle Xander, you no answer me. You like Uncle Ryken too, right? Right?"
Xander blinked, thinking why Calliope was fixated on that particular question. He ignored Calix who masked his chuckle by coughing. Leslie simply bit her lower lip, trying not to laugh.
The male lead’s usually rigid demeanor cracked under the weight of the little dumpling’s relentless questions.
"...yes. He’s my friend. I won’t be his friend if I don’t like him."
Xander finally replied, his voice unusually tight. He shot a sharp look at Calix when the latter coughed loudly.
For some reason, the healed spot on his face tingling with pain again. Xander would forever remember the time Ryken punched him.
