Chapter 269: The Mother and Daughter’s Abundant Selflessness and Perseverance
Calix went outside to look for Director Li, intending to lay the sleeping Calliope in a more comfortable place. He smiled at the older lady once he spotted her on a bench nearby.
"How is Calliope?" asked Director Li as she returned Calix’s smile. Rising to her feet, she approached the younger man, "Has she calmed down?"
Calix appeared earlier than Director Li expected. It hadn’t been an hour from the time she left the office. She thought the husband and wife would spend a longer time to comfort Calliope.
"She’s sleeping. She cried so much earlier," Calix let out faint laughter, recalling what had just unfolded in the last hour, "But, she didn’t reject us. We believe we’ll get to talk to her better after she wakes up."
Calix filled Director Li in with more details. But, he hadn’t brought up the topic of bringing Calliope home with them yet. He planned to talk more to the child before deciding on anything.
"Oh, where’s Calliope’s bedroom? I’ll carry her there," asked Calix, reminding himself about his initial intention of looking for Director Li.
"You should head to the guest room, Mr. Xu. The one you used before. You can bring Mrs. Xu to rest there too. Spend some time together with just you three."
Director Li’s tone had a hint of teasing, earning a chuckle from Calix. He nodded, agreeing with the middle-aged woman.
"Yeah, perhaps I should do that. My wife and I were balls of nerves from last night. We could barely sleep."
