Chapter 199: Acting Annoyingly Smug About Having a Wife
Calix and Leslie ended up changing their plan. Instead of returning in the late afternoon, they had dinner together with Old Madam Xu.
The spouses unisonly acknowledged the old lady’s desire to spend more time with them, leading to them extending their visit. Yet, they had to decline the offer of staying the night.
Old Madam Xu, Butler Gu and two maids sent Calix and Leslie off to the front door. Mrs. An and Logan were also there with them.
The moon was already high up in the sky. The clock pointed to a little after eight. They had an early dinner tonight.
"We’ll come and spend time... with you again, Grandma..." said Leslie while holding Old Madam Xu’s wrinkly hands, "Thank you for your... hospitality today... I enjoyed talking to you..."
After waking up from their nap, Old Madam Xu told Calix and Leslie to gather back in the lounge. She took the chance to show her new granddaughter-in-law a few of the family photo albums.
The old lady narrated the stories behind certain photos, like the ones portraying the much younger Calix and Evelyn fighting.
Smiling, Old Madam Xu took her hands out of Leslie’s grasp. She stepped forward before hugging the young lady in the wheelchair. Her action stunned Leslie.
"You can come here whenever you want, either with Calix or alone," Old Madam Xu softened her voice. She ran one palm across the back of Leslie’s head, "This is your family’s home. Don’t hesitate to see me."
Old Madam Xu had taken a liking to the lady her grandson chose as his bride. She sensed how well their relationship was, prompting her to daydream about getting a great-grandchild from the spouses in the future.
Aiya, an old woman like her wished to see her grandson’s child before she closed her eyes forever.
