Chapter 106: His Ghost Wife Was a Skilled Stone-Thrower
Once dinner ended, Calix quickly made his escape. He refused to mingle with his relatives until late at night, not when he had had enough of them for today. He sneaked out from the group when everyone walked down the hallway.
Calix made his way to the backyard, wishing to get some fresh air before heading to the bedroom. Along the way, he spotted Gerard and a few of his distant relatives.
"Urgh... What bad luck. I don’t want to see him," complained Calix under his breath.
Gerard arrived before tea time. Calix didn’t mind it at all. He pretended not to see the annoying man when they crossed paths earlier today, unwilling to hear Gerard’s snarky remarks.
That guy was as insufferable as ever.
Gerard was too deep into his jealousy to see that his abilities were minuscules compared to Calix’s. Everyone in the huge Xu family knew about it, including Gerard’s parents who always scolded him.
In Calix’s eyes, Gerard had the tiniest possibility to change for the better. Thus, he didn’t want to be associated with the intolerable man more than necessary.
Calix turned around, intending to go elsewhere. But, he stopped short when out of a sudden, Gerard’s shouts broke the peace in the air.
’Isn’t that Gerard? Did he see a ghost or what?’
Instead of being driven there with the instinct to help, Calix headed there out of curiosity. He wanted to see what made Gerard scream like a child scared by ghosts in the haunted house.
Calix didn’t expect his random thought to come true.
